Green Mung Dal Cheela/Green Mung Savory Pancakes

Green Mung Dal Cheela/Green Mung Savory Pancakes

Cheela is a typical breakfast dish of the Northern States in India. Its made typically of garbanzo bean flour, green chilies and onions and eaten with ketchup, chutney or pickles.I am posting a more nutritious version made with mung which is extremely healthy and nutritious.
An aunt of mine had come for a night stay and was a patient of cholesterol and wanted a breakfast which would be for her benefit. So out came the dal and the dish was thus created!I used a lot of garlic as it benefits cholesterol patients.I also used onions.People not liking the two can omit them safely.
For this you need the raw mung dal WITH the green skins on.Its called “chilkewali mung ki dal”.NOT the whole green beans which we sprout.

This recipe benefits people with blood pressure, obesity, cholesterol and is a very good choice for those eating healthy!

The batter after grinding…

Empty the ground dal in a bowl. Add salt to taste.Mix well.Heat a tava/griddle on medium heat.Drop a ladleful of Cheela mix on the tava. Spread it out into a medium size pancake. Cook it for 2 minutes till it becomes golden brown and crisp on one side.Flip it over.Cook the other side as well.Make all other cheelas the same way.Serve hot with any chutney, ketchup or pickle. Its so delicious that it can be eaten as it is!!

P.S

1.You can also add Onion and Garlic omit it out and make the recipe more fancy.Or you can also make it like an Utthappam with some grated paneer or boiled chopped vegetables like carrots, beans and radish.

2.You can add some Green Coriander-Mint Chutney to the batter for a wonderful spicy taste!
