A memorable Culinary Journey!

Namkeen Poha Chivda

We get Namkeens(savory snacks) from the stores at exorbitant prices these days and they finish very fast for some of the Namkeen freaks like me.So I made a super easy Namkeen combining Poha(pressed rice) with Peanuts so that we “fill” our  tummies fast and save the snacks for a longer time. This also involves Citric Acid for the tangy taste.Check it out…

Preparation time – 30 minutes
Makes – Approx 300 gms of Namkeen Chivda

INGREDIENTS

1 cup poha(pressed rice)
1 cup raw peanuts
100 gms plain store bought namkeen(Sev,boondi, ghatia) – individual or mixed
Branded Namkeen can also be substituted*see end of this post
3 tbsp sugar
2 tsp salt
1 tsp Citric Acid crystals
2 tbsp oil

METHOD

Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan and add the pressed rice(poha).Roast on medium heat till the poha shrinks a little and becomes pale red and crisp.Keep aside on a plate to cool.Heat the other 1 tbsp of oil and add the peanuts.Fry till a deep brown in color and crunchy to taste.Keep aside to cool likewise on a plate.

Meanwhile as they cool combine the salt, sugar and Citric Acid crystals in a grinder. The crystals resemble sugar – transparent and beautiful…Grind all the three to a fine powder.

Grinding the powder…

After cooling spoon the poha into a deep bowl or pan.I used the same pan used to fry the ingredients.Mix the fried peanuts on top.Add the powdered salt, sugar and citric acid to the poha and peanuts.Mix well so that the powder amalgamates into the mix.

Now add the Store bought Namkeen to the Poha mix.Mix very well so that everything comes together.Taste to see as a little more sugar powder may be needed to balance the taste.Store in airtight containers and serve with hot tea or coffee.

P.S

1.*For the Namkeen either you can buy store bought or make your own at home for spectacular results. But Namkeens like Sev,Ghatia and Boondi are a huge workload at home its best either to get a mix or individual packs of the Namkeens.

*For mix Namkeens take 100 gms/1 cup of the same.

*For Individual packs take 1/4 cup of each.

2.Check for sugar as according to individual sugar preference a little may be needed.
