Tangy Fruit Chaat

This recipe was invented for a rainy day snack.We cannot fry snacks like Pakodas and Cutlets everyday owing to health reasons.The idea is to make a yummy tummy filling recipe which will do only good for us.So here comes a fruit chaat which is excellent in fibre,tastes divine and wonderful for health.So next time on a rainy afternoon try this out and enjoy a guilt free and delicious eating session!

There is no limit for the variety of fruits you take.Take the general and seasonal fruits and mix them up or take only one variety – whatever you want.Custard Apple is one such fruit which is very difficult to add here but if you can take the pulp out nothing like it!However I will provide a list of fruits which will go very well with the recipe:

  • Apple
  • Banana
  • Grapes – green,black,purple or red varieties.
  • Pear
  • Kiwi Fruit
  • Pomegranate
  • Mango

NOTE – This recipe can be made for fasts(vrat) as well substituting Rock Salt (Sendha Namak) for Black Salt and Common Salt.

Preparation Time : 30 minutes

Makes – 4 servings

INGREDIENTS

Fruits I took for this recipe:

1 big Apple(Red Delicious,Fuji or Washington) – chopped in quarters

100 gms red Grapes(big ones halved) or take 200 gms small green or black grapes

1 big Pear – chopped in quarters

1 big/2 small Bananas – sliced

1 Kiwi Fruit – the brown hairy skin peeled and chopped in quarters

2 tbsp Pomegranate pearls

The spice powders:

1 tsp Black Salt(Kala Namak)

1/2 tsp Iodised salt(common salt)

1 tsp rosted Cumin Seeds powder(Jeera) – roast 1 tsp seeds on a hot tava and powder

1 1/2 tsp powdered sugar

Ingredients for extra taste:

2 Green chilies – very finely minced

1 tbsp very finely chopped Coriander Leaves

1 tbsp fresh Lemon Juice

METHOD

Put all the chopped fruits except Pomegranate pearls in a large bowl.

Add the spice powders and the Green Chilies and Coriander Leaves.Mix in the lemon juice.

Toss very well to mix.

Spoon four equal portions of the fruit mix into four Chaat plates and sprinkle with the Pomegranate pearls!

Serve with fancy fruit forks or toothpicks,exactly as you would serve any Chaat!
