Thepla is a Gujarati Bread which can be made in minutes.The simplicity of the making and the deliciousness  go hand in hand making this an option for a quick meal. Thepla is also wonderful as a travel option as it does not spoil fast.Check the recipe out here..

Thepla served with homemade Green Chili and Punjabi Mango Pickles…

Preparation Time – 15 Minutes

Makes – 5-6 Theplas

INGREDIENTS

1 cup Whole Wheat Flour(Atta)

2 tsp Asafoetida,

2 tsp Turmeric Powder(Haldi)

2 tsp Whole Cumin Seeds(Jeera)

1 tsp Red Chili Powder

1 tsp Salt(or to taste)

2 tsp Oil

Oil for cooking

Water for kneading

METHOD

Roast Cumin Seeds in a Tadka Kadai or a pan on low heat till they release their aroma and become red.Do not let them go black.Let them cool and coarsely powder them.Keep aside.

Mix all the spices including the Cumin Seeds and 2 tsp Oil into the Flour and knead with sufficient water to make a soft but pliable dough which does not stick.

Heat a Tava(griddle) on medium heat.Roll the dough into medium rounds(like a Roti or Tortilla) and place them on the griddle.When the bottom side gets cooked then flip over and let cook the other side.On the copoked side spread 1 tsp of oil.When the other side gets cooked then flip again to let the oil cook the Thepla further.Spread 1/2 tsp oil on the other side and cook again.Make all the Theplas the same way.

Serve hot with Pickles,Curd,Chutney or with a pat of butter!
