Channa Dal Vada(Lentil Fritters)

This Vada is made during auspicious Celebrations,Pujas and Occasions.During Dussehra when South Indians celebrate Saraswati Puja(for the Goddess of learning and Wisdom),this Vada is made and distributed to all.Here goes the recipe:

Preparation Time – 5-6 hours(includes Soaking time)

Makes – Approx 15 Vadas

INGREDIENTS

2 cups Channa Dal – Soaked in water for 4-5 hours)

2 Dried Red Chilies

1 tsp Asafoetida – powdered

Salt to taste

A handful of curry leaves

Oil for frying

METHOD

Take the soaked Dal in a food processor or grinder.Add the rest of the ingredients and half of the Curry leaves.Process till you get a coarse paste.

The Vada Paste

Take the paste in a bowl and add the rest of the curry leaves torn into shreds.

Heat oil in a frying pan.Wet your hands.Make lemon sized balls of the pasted Dal and flatten it on your palms.Slide it into hot oil.Fry them on medium heat till golden brown and crisp.Make all Vadas this way.

Serve hot with any sauce or chutney!
