I am sure many of you will be familiar with what we call Wadi in Marathi.Its also called Magodi or Mangodi in the UP-Bihar-Delhi belt.It refers to lentils ground fine,seasoned with spices and dried in the hot sun after which its used to make tasty and delicious varieties of dishes!Here is my version of Mangodi or wadi with rice.
Preparation Time – 30-45 minutes
Makes – 3-4 servings
INGREDIENTS
1 cup fine long grained rice(Basmati)
1/2 cup Wadi/Mangodi
1/2 cup peas – fresh/frozen
Salt to taste
1/2 tbsp Chole Masala(ready made)
1/2 tsp Red Chili Powder
2 tsp Coriander Powder(Dhania)
2 Bay Leaves
2 tbsp Oil
METHOD
Soak the rice in double quantity of water for 30 minutes.Drain the water and keep aside.
Mangodi or Wadi..
Heat Oil in a Pressure Cooker and add Bay leaves,add the Wadi and fry till they are dark brown in color.Add the peas and stir well.Add rice and stir.Add the Red Chili Powder,Salt to taste and Coriander Powder.Mix well.

Cook for 2-3 minutes and add Chole Masala.Add water to approx 1/2 inch of rice.Close lid and steam till done.
Serve with plain yogurt or Raita.
