Oats has become a superfood,a healthy option and a universal alternative which is now adopted for nearly every recipe – snacks, main course or dessert. Now recipes in food shows and “healthy” cookbooks have become saturated with this humble yet wonderful health food!I use Oats in numerous ways and one of them is for breakfast in the form of a porridge! This is a delicious option and the addition of ingredients like Cinnamon and Apple make it even yummier.Kids have it as this is “something different” for them!
I would like to point out the various kind of Oats available in the market to give you an idea of choosing your cereal. There are 3 basic kinds:
1.Instant Oats – They are available under various brand names and are very easily available. However I do not prefer them as they are processed and refined in nature and do not contain as much fibre and nutrients as the next two categories. They are best for a quick breakfast when you do not have much time to cook.
2.Rolled Oats – This is the variety I use for this porridge. They are wholesome, unprocessed and with a whole lot of finer and nutrients. They take around 15 minutes to cook and are delicious and chewy.
Rolled Oats..
3.Steel Cut Oats – This variety is very difficult to find in the market and re very expensive as well. They are whole Oats cereal cut with a blade into small granules and are the healthiest versions available. If you can source them please use it for the porridge!
