“Nothing is softer,or more flexible than water, yet nothing can resist it”,says a quote stuck between the trillions of quotes on the “search for anything engine” Google!Let us forget our stresses, frustrations and commitments for a minute, sit back and close our eyes!Let us go back in time and think about childhood!Among all the games we played and the people whom we harassed,we could not leave water! And that brings a few drops of salty brine in our eyes as we think about our “evolution” and “progress” in life! From “less progressive” to “being modern with the latest technology gadgets” we lost even more than we thought!People will tend to disagree with me so let me list them out :
Childhood Innocence
Natural resources at our disposal – fresh air, water,Sun,Rain,Winters – enjoyment of all seasons!
Better quality air
Lesser stresses
Fresh produce sourced locally
Fresh meat and dairy items
Satisfaction in whatever we had
No compulsions,no targets and no insomnia!
Well if you have associated with ANY of these points then let me tell you my friend you have lost much!Losing these aspects is incomplete when I say that we are in the process to lose the elixir to survival for every living being on this earth – Water!
Comprising of Hydrogen and Oxygen in the formula H2O,this must have been the best way to de stress at one time when there was nothing like anti depressants and over the counter medications! But over the last two decades, people have started taking water sources for granted and in countries like India where corruption and Red Tapism are the order of the day, unfortunately the natural resources, water and air being the top two,are being compromised.I live in Mumbai – one of the busiest cities, the financial Capital of India, the film industry portal and with 2 million population with more people coming by the day to search for work!Undoubtedly Mumbai has become a concrete jungle with the quality of air reduced drastically thanks to the now massive cutting of trees.Last year on Diwali, the Indian capital of Delhi had the same issue and while some complained the air was unfit to breathe, a family I knew was admitted to the hospital, the reason which I later came to know as water poisoning!
Water is drunk to save lives, relieve thirsts, remove stress and cure almost every known disease I know about! When it acts as a poison then its high time we did something to save this precious treasure on earth!I will not hesitate to bring my own building into spotlight where the Indian festival of Holi was played with attached water showers which spurted out water even as people coloured each other to the point of unrecognisable shocking entities and stood under these showers for a public bath which was something more substantial to the fact that some of them rarely entered the washroom for one!Even when there was no one under the showers they continued to shower water over plain ground which left the observer wondering about the many thirsty people this water would have bought a joy to,who craved drinking water but could not get it at all or to their fill!
Crystal clear rain water on Pumpkin leaves in my Balcony Garden….love the clear drop which laminated the leaf and made it blushing green again…
Last year when in Maharashtra the drought was at its fiercest in the months of May and June, villagers waited for halting trains and filled their bottles from the taps attached to the toilet pipes not seeing hygiene, convenience of other passengers or their own safety. However there are a sample in the aggregate population who have realised the seriousness of the situation and who are working for this noble cause!
There are a lot of Non Governmental Organisations which work very hard to save and retain water in India.Let me introduce one dynamic lady in Mumbai campaigning for the cause of water preservation!Let me introduce one dynamic lady in Mumbai campaigning for the cause of water preservation! Meet Deepa Krishnan – an IIM Kolkata graduate who owns mumbaimagic.com an offbeat tour company. Deepa has been working for the last 3 years in the tribal villages near Mumbai, on rainwater harvesting and community dam projects. These projects use the natural contours of the land to arrest the flow of water and ensure it recharges the groundwater. Here is a photo from her current project at Aptale village where work started on building a small dam so that they could have a pond. They are planning for two ponds in the area as there is a perennial trickle of water from between clefts of rock which could be effectively utilised!

The beverage companies advertise soft drinks and aerated beverages to quench thirst!Really?Let us do a test here.Let us indulge in any activity which will tire us and make us horribly thirsty! It can be running, standing in the blazing Indian summer Sun for 15 minutes or even cleaning the house.Let us drink a glass of any commercial beverage. The funny thing is that 10 minutes after we have the beverage we reach out for that bottle of water to quench the thirst caused by the beverage!Nothing beats thirst like water and nothing cures and heals the body like water!
Recently LivPure water purifier started a great initiative called CuttingPaani which is a great initiative to save drinking water. If you have guests at home and plan on serving water then do not fill till the glass rim, instead fill half the glass as people drink a portion of the water served and refuse to take the rest which has to be discarded.Though this may look like an unexpected gesture of stinginess, educate your guests by telling them the truth and why you do this!Let them also understand and practice for themselves!
LivPure endorsed former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar (an achiever par unique) as their brand ambassador!
They also have bought out ads which I have posted between readings for you to alternate between the texts!Let us educate each other as well as children so that we will give them tips and uses to preserve water as they grow into adults tomorrow!
Let us save water!Let us make each drop count!Let us make enough oceans from each drop so that no one stays thirsty and no land stays parched on this planet! Its all in the attitude – just the way God intended it to be!
Thanks to Deepa Krishnan for letting me use her pictures for making this post!
NOTE : The water used in the photoshoot was the one used to clean my granite window sill on which the glasses were photographed! No water was wasted while shooting the pics!
We can substitute water and kick the commercial beverages!Check out my recipe on Infused Water for Detoxification and Weight Loss :
